A multi-agency team of police officers who were acting on a tip-off on smuggling of illegal firearms yesterday managed to confiscate lethal weapons consisting of two AK 47 riffles and one G3 rifle from a motorcycle rider and his pillion passenger in lokore area, Turkana county. The team comprising of KPS, APS and DCI officers intercepted the suspects, 21 and 37-year-old men at the lokore roadblock riding from Kakuma towards Lodwar conveying the illegal firearms that had been stripped and packaged in a 50kg sack. Two AK 47 and one G3 empty magazines together with two separate rounds of ammunition were also recovered. After intense interrogation, the suspects were not able to provide officers with a satisfactory account on the fact of being in possession of the above-stated weapons, therefore, leading to their arrest and placement in police custody. Detectives from DCI Turkana West have since taken over investigations into the matter to establish the motive of the suspects. We express our gratitude to the members of the public living within the area for providing the law enforcement agencies with crucial intelligence that led to the successful arrest of the suspects. Meanwhile, the firearms have been collected by our Ballistics experts for further analysis, and the motorcycle impounded. #FichuakwaDCI, USIOGOPE! 0800722203
