
The Africa Wealth Study, which has been published annually since 2017, has listed the top ten wealthiest cities in Africa.
In the list below Nairobi the capital City of Kenya and the hub of East African Trade was ranked among other cities in Africa.
Below is the Ranking list of the wealthiest cities in Africa with southern Africa dominating the top posts.
The cities have been ranked by total wealth held – the private wealth held by all the individuals living in each city, including all their assets (property, currency, equities, business interests) less any liabilities, according to the report supported by Mauritius-based banking group AfrAsia Bank.
- Johannesburg
The city of gold is the wealthiest in Africa with an estimated wealth of $248 billion. It is also a home to 2-dollar billionaires, and 1600 millionaires
- Cape Town.
It has an estimated wealth of $133 billion (Approx. Sh13 trillion). It is also a home to a 1-dollar billionaire.
- Cairo.
Cairo, Egypt’s capital and largest city, is situated on the banks of the Nile River. It also has more billionaires than any other African city.
- Lagos.
The most populous city in Africa (with a population of 22 million people) and the economic center of West Africa. The Nigerian capital is a home to 2-dollar billionaires and over 1000 millionaires.
- Durban.
It is the third wealthiest city in South Africa, with a total wealth of $54 billion. It is located on the east coast of the country (Approx. Sh5.4 trillion).
- Nairobi.
Kenya’s capital city with a population of about 4.5 million people.
It’s a home to approx. 6,200-dollar millionaires.
- Pretoria.
South Africa’s administrative capital, with a total wealth of $45 billion (Approx. Sh4.5 trillion).
- Luanda.
The capital city of Angola is a home to 1 dollar billionaire.
- Casablanca.
With a population of 3.7 million inhabitants, it is Morocco’s most populous city.
- Accra.
Ghana’s capital is the second West African city to make it to top 10.
