After students staged a protest the night before, parents stormed Muthambi Girls School in Tharaka Nithi County on Wednesday morning, August 4.
Neighbors said that the strike started a few hours after midnight and lasted until nearly 5 a.m.
Some pupils were said to have slept in the thickets, while others were said to have abandoned the institution and vanished into the night.
“I awoke at 4 a.m. after hearing a disturbance. ‘Haki Yetu Haki Yetu,’ the students chanted.
“They were extremely well-organized. The walkout appears to have been well-planned “The youngsters allegedly pushed each other not to vandalize school property, according to the neighbor.
The students, who were armed with torches, forced the security guard to unlock the gate and let them leave, according to another eyewitness.
“They were well-dressed and stormed out of school, agitating for change,” the eyewitness continued.
According to reports, the pupils were protesting the school principal, who they wanted to be fired.
Officers from a neighboring police station were dispatched to the school to investigate the situation and speak with worried parents.
The cops were trying to figure out what concerns and grievances had led to the strike. The school administration announced that a statement about the demonstration would be issued later in the day.
On July 26, schools reopened, with Form One, Three, and Four students reporting on that day. On Monday, August 2, Form One students were welcomed one week later.
Education CS George Magoha distributed about Ksh17 billion to schools and cautioned principals not to send home students with outstanding fees.
