Guinea’s Presidential Palace is taken over by a military coup commanded by Lt.Col Mamady Doumbouya. President Alpha Conde, who is 83 years old and serving his third term in office, has been arrested.
Conde controversially amended the constitution to grant him a third term while MPs raised his salary.
The coup was orchestrated by military forces opposed to the unlawful changes.
Celebration is going on in the streets of Guinea as the President, Alpha Condé has been arrested by his military. Special forces that rebelled against him went to arrest him at the Presidential Palace.
Guinea Conakry’s Coup: Mamady Doumboya the Commander of Guinea’s Special Forces just released a statement on national TV announcing the coup that led to the arrest of Alpha Conde.In the early morning of Sunday, September 05, 2021, heavy gunfire was heard near the presidential palace. In a video announcement, the soldiers confirmed that Alpha was not harmed but refused to respond. According to Guineanews, many other members of Alpha’s administration have been arrested as well.
The coup that was led by Lt.Col Mamady Doumbouya (Pictured above) said in a short broadcast on state television that they have dissolved the constitution and are currently holding the presidency.
The president was accused of abuse of power and the constitution.
